for plants. There
are some roses which are harder to grow than others. If you are a
beginner at rose gardening, it is best not to start with hybrid teas
roses until you are a little more experienced. Some roses to start with
are Shrub roses and Landscape roses these are great for the beginning
gardener. If you feel the need to plant and have some time on your
hands, learn about hybrid teas roses before trying to plant them. They
can be very high maintenance plants and hard to grow. It is best to
begin with any of the other less maintenance plants that the rose
family has to offer.
Any beginner can start
growing healthy plants, you just need
the right type of rose. There are hundreds of species of roses and
choosing the right rose can be difficult. Here are a few things you
should consider before buying your roses:
1.The color
of roses
is usually a factor to those who want to grow roses. Many people choose
roses by their favorite colors.
2. Height should be a
concern, many varieties of roses can
grow up to twenty feet high when mature and would be to large for a
small garden area.
3. Think about the area
you live in, if you live in a zone
with a cold
climate consider
buying roses
that will survive the cold winters.
4. There are some
people who have an allergic reaction to
scents, plant roses that have a lighter or softer fragrance than
others.
5. Learn about the
different types of roses out there. What
are the advantages and disadvantages of certain roses.
6. Think about the size
of your rose
garden space, to ensure you have
proper exposure to air and water.
7. Many people plant
roses to use in cut
flower
arrangements. Can the
roses you plant be cut? Many rose types will come apart at the petals
when they are cut.
8. Consider what you
plan on planting with your roses. Will
those plants and flowers work well with your roses? Many other types of
flowers and plants can cause damage to your roses. Roses are very needy
plants and may not work well with other plants.
9. When you have an
idea of the type of plants you would
like to plant, find out which plants will work best with your ideas for
your rose garden. Consult your garden center for advice about the rose
type you have chosen.
For the beginning
gardener, Landscape roses are great. They
are resistant to rose disease
and
are low maintenance. They tend to grow up and many people use them on
trellises or the sides of their homes. Remember Hybrid teas are not the
rose to start off with if you are a beginner.
Shrub roses are long
bloomers and disease resistant. This is
a great rose for the beginning
gardener. They are beautiful even when
not in bloom, because it's leaves are so nice. Although they are not
the ideal rose for those who have allergies to scents. They do have a
very fragrant odor. Also these roses are disease resistant and good for
cut flower
arrangements.
Miniature
roses are just what they sound
like. They have smaller rose blooms
with the same scent and beauty as roses with a larger flower. Miniature
roses are wonderful in pots for indoor planting.
